Before my pitch I had to think of a clear idea for the documentary as I needed it to be a topic that would keep me interested in it for the next 2 and a half months till my deadline. I had to research whether the topic was doable and interviewees were accessible in an ethical way as well.
Just having an idea and interviewees wasn’t enough as I need the voice of the story to sound empathetic as it was radio and I needed pictures and other forms of media to show a fully rounded story about school violence and not just one side to it.
After confirming on the topic, my research showed that this topic should be done in a more tame format as the subject wasn’t a very pleasant or easy one to talk about. I had to take into concern the safety of not only my interviewees but also myself as my tutors and parents had pointed out.
I have no personal experience with school violence but had read man stories and articles about it and some of my friends had gone through it as well. The topic intrigued me as it is very common and relevant today and happens more than one would think yet there isn’t a proper solution or seriousness brought into it so that made me dive right into it and bring awareness to the topic and hopefully find answers to it.
